From the constant crashes to the minor updates, that I still don’t really understand, I just needed something more stable to work with. As fun as it was, there was always some minor issues and frustrations I kept getting while using Octane most of the time. I ended up doing 355 projects using Octane. Scattering objects, node systems, denoising renders and fog options is something most Octane users can’t go without. Lighting and texturing became fun again to play with. At this point, to be honest, GPU acceleration has become a must have in most softwares, it has become essential in everyone’s workflow, and most of all, for the well-being of our own sanity.įor me personally, Octane brought me a new way of working inside of Cinema 4D with its live render view. It is probably one of the biggest leap the motion design industry had during the last couple years, a real game changer. Once you go GPU, you will never look back. Of course, going GPU and seeing for myself the difference in speed and in my workflow was just amazing. I had just upgraded my Graphics card with a new 1050ti, and it was finally time to go full GPU. For anything else, go for Octane.I never thought I would be using Octane so soon in my everydays journey, and definitely not 1 month after switching to Corona, I was just getting used to it, but thankfully a friend decided to gift me a full license of Octane, fan of my project files, he just wanted to give me something useful to play with in return, and I will always be thankful for his generosity. If you are doing lots of interior scenes, are coming from Vray or Arnold, or just really like settings, wait for Redshift. I really comes down to personal preference. Their customer service sucks, except Aoktar, he's a badass. Doing fog or SSS, after you've seen how easy it is in Arnold or Redshift, will make you want to pull your hair out. If you're using Path Tracing or PMC, you might as well be using a CPU renderer (I'm gonna get a bunch of crap for that comment, I know.) Can't exclude lights, or reflections. Version 3.1 should be out within the next year that will add non-Nvidia cards and CPU rendering.ĭislikes: No spotlight, unless you buy the Brograph spotlight. Fastest renderer out there for doing simple scenes. If you're coming from standard renderer you can pick it up in a about a day. Likes: Super realistic looking scenes with very minimal work. If you're coming from Octane or Standard Renderer, trying to figure out shadow noise and settings can become a little cumbersome. Not a lot of Cinema 4D Redshift tutorials. I did a logo animation render on both, and the Direct Lighting equivalent in Redshift took me about 2-3 times longer the Octane one. Not as fast as Octane if you're using Direct Lighting with no SSS or fog. Their customer service is excellent.ĭislikes: Higher learning curve than Octane, (if you're coming from the standard renderer, if you're coming from Arnold or Vray, should be cake). If you're doing fog and SSS it's much faster than Octane. Atmosphere and fog is the easiest thing I've ever done. Interior scenes look way better than Octane. It has a very familiar look and feel as Arnold or VRay. Likes: It feels more like your standard render engine. There's no hard date that I've heard of for release, but I have a feeling it's going to be soon. Everything must be exactly how it is in the real world. The veracity principle guides the calculations of the unbiased 3D render engine. Much faster than CPU rendering, unless you've invested heavily in CPU rendering. For example, there are two types of 3D render engines: unbiased (Arnold Cycles Octane) and biased (Arnold Cycles Octane) ( V-Ray Redshift Mental Ray). What I would say, is it really depends on what your main focus is and what render engine you're currently coming from. I've been on the Redshift beta for a few months, and have used Octane for the past three years. If you have feedback on the subreddit theme, feel free to send /u/Cryptonaut a message.
